Children's & Family Portraits - Basingstoke, Hampshire
My family portrait sessions are personalised and unique with a huge focus on making the experience fun and relaxed for everyone. I prefer to work on location, either at one of your favourite spots or I can suggest some beautiful local venues. I love working with natural light and letting the session unfold naturally - capturing beautiful, captivating and natural portraits that document and celebrate you and your loved ones. I especially love connecting with children..... capturing images that reflect their unique and blossoming personalities.
Before the shoot I will meet you in person to find out more about your family - I like to learn as much as I can about your children's personalities so that I can tailor how I interact with them on the day of the shoot. We can brainstorm ideas together and chat about styling. I love getting to know each of my clients and pride myself in capturing the most beautiful portraits you've ever had - ones that you'll always treasure.
My family portrait sessions generally last anywhere between 60 mins and two hours. I try not to put a fixed time on them so as to remove any pressure and to allow for plenty of breaks and cuddles. I encourage children to run around, explore and have fun....... keeping the whole experience as relaxed and spontaneous as possible. I'll run around with them - ready to capture those magical, unguarded moments.
After the shoot I will carefully select and edit the best images for you. About two weeks after your shoot, I will invite you to my studio and we can view your gallery together. If you are interested in displaying your beautiful family portraits as wall art in your home we will have time to pick out your favourites and see what works well together.
So why should you book a Photoshoot with me?
I work hard to be as flexible as possible, to fit in around your family’s commitments and make your experience as easy, relaxed and enjoyable as possible. From your first contact with me to receiving your prints and artwork.
I pride myself on being creative and producing stunning images that capture precious moments in time. These moments can make wonderful gifts – especially for doting grandparents and they can be made into beautiful pieces of artwork for your home, something you'll treasure for years to come and ultimately will form part of the legacy you leave your children.
“Capturing loving memories like this is an art and it is an art that I love.”
It is not just me saying this though, here are some kind words from one of my clients.
What if it rains or I need to reschedule?
Many people worry about fixing a date for their family portraits and then having terrible weather or one of your becomes ill or another family commitment crops up. Please don’t!! I’m a busy Mum myself and know that life sometimes gets in the way! Shoots can be rearranged, even at short notice and, though I'm happy to work on overcast days, if the heavens open or if we have strong winds we will postpone and reschedule the shoot. I'll keep an eye on the forecast on the days leading up to your session and speak with you the day before to agree if we're going ahead. And if you’re ill or need to rearrange just let me know as soon as you can and we’ll pick another date for your shoot.
What if my child has a meltdown?
Another common concern is a small person having a meltdown: Ha!!! I know the feeling:) Kids will be kids....... I'm a parent myself and know just how challenging our little ones can be at times! I've been photographing children for years and find I can coax even the shyest/most energetic child into a place where I can capture some stunning portraits. In certain circles I'm known as The Toddler Whisperer!!!!
I’m not photogenic!!
So many families miss out on professional family portraits as they worry that they just aren't photogenic enough….. and it’s just not true. Yes, you might not have looked your best under the horrible yellow light at last year’s family Christmas get together... with the most unflattering angle you were shot you from. I don’t know about you but, I swear my other half always manages to shoot me from an angle that makes me look the size of a hippo!!!!
It’s my job to capture you looking your best. And I do this by looking for the most flattering light, working out your best angles, advising on styling and what colours would work well for you. And if you’re at all worried about your weight, good posing can drop 10lb instantly! You just need to be your beautiful self and let me worry about the rest.
The moments in your lives that my photographs capture are priceless – you don’t get this time back with your children. And one day, when we’re all older, our children will look for pictures of you and they won’t care what you look like - they’ll just want photographs to treasure and remember you by!
So if you'd love some beautiful family portraits of your loved ones this year - let's chat. Either fill out the form below or call me on 07936 624822 and we can set up a time that works for both of us to have an initial, quick no obligation phone call.

What more info?
If you’d like a copy of my studio brochure which is full of lots more useful info including what to expect on your shoot, how to prepare plus my full price list please fill out the form below and I’ll be in touch ASAP. I take family portraits in Basingstoke but cover Hampshire and Surrey too.
What time of year is the best for a family portrait session?
As long as it's not tipping it down anytime of year is good!! I'm based in Basingstoke and cover Hampshire, Berkshire & Surrey. We're so lucky to live in such a beautiful corner of our country with some stunning backdrops and each season has it's own unique charm, colours and lighting - I've taken beautiful images for families in all of them!
What will happen if it's raining on the day of the shoot?
I'm happy to work in most weather but if the heavens open or if we have really strong winds we will postpone and reschedule the shoot. I'll keep an eye on the weather on the days leading up to your session and speak with you the day before to agree if we're going ahead.
What if my child is sick on the day?
This can't be helped at all! I'm a Mum myself and the last thing we want to do is try and force some happy shots when your child is under the weather. Just let me know as soon as you can and we will reschedule the session for another time. In fact, this applies to anyone in your family....
How long will the session be?
I don't set a fixed amount of time for family sessions as I like to make the whole experience as pressure free as possible. I'll let the session unfold naturally and allow you and your children some time to become more comfortable with me before I start shooting. I find they generally take anywhere between 60 mins and two hours although if you have a baby this may be a little longer to allow for cuddles and feeding.
Where will the portrait session be held?
I am happy to come along to your favourite place - a walk, a park alternatively I have a number of local locations I use in different seasons that have interesting features/backgrounds that make good choices for a shoot.
When will our portraits be ready?
Your images will be ready two weeks after your session. I'll invite you back to my studio to look through them together on my large screen in a completely unpressurised environment. If you are looking to purchase art work for your home we will have time to pick out your favourites and put them into collections that work well together.
I'm not photogenic and I'm worried that the photos with me in them won't look any good!
I hear this all the time! It's natural to feel like this - we're all too hard on ourselves sometimes, but please don't worry too much..... it's my job to make you look the best you can and I'll give you tips and advice before the shoot to help with this. On the day of the shoot I'll find the most flattering lighting at our location and use certain poses to make you look great!
I'm worried that my child will misbehave/have a meltdown on the day.
Ha!!! I know the feeling :) Kids will be kids....... I'm a parent myself and know just how challenging our little ones can be at times! I've been photographing children for years and find I can coax even the shyest/energetic child into a place where I can capture some stunning portraits. In certain parts I'm known as........ The Toddler Whisperer!!!!
